Sky by Broadband worries

Skyeveryway_header_bb

PC Doctor has an article about Sky's Broadband service (download movies and Sky Sports headlines to your PC) that not only finds it slow to download material, but that it installs a peer-to-peer file-sharing service (Kontiki) that carries on running and using your bandwidth after the main Sky application is shutdown. Kontiki also sends back encrypted data about your PC. On uninstalling Sky by Broadband, Kontiki is left installed and running on your PC. If you want to know how to uninstall Kontiki, take a look at the PC Doctor article Serious issues with Sky by Broadband service.

Thanks for the info Mike I installed this software last week but didn't realise the P2P software continued running while the Sky software wasn't. I noticed recently a distinct lack of bandwidth too.... I think I've managed to remove it from my machine now.

My friend signed up for Sky broadband and has had a lot of difficulty in getting it to actually work.

He was previously with another major broadband provider and switched to Sky due to the poor service he was receiving.

thanks John

I had broadband with Orange(wanadoo/ Freeserve) for four years an decided to switch to sky in September. I was swayed by the promise of faster speed and lower cost. Basically Sky is rubbish!!!! If you can get on to the server at all you are kicker off after nten or twenty minutes. Calling technical support is no help. The only help they offer is to ask you to re-boot the router and delete temporary internet files.
Be warned STAY AWAY FROM SKY BROADBAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
