Coming soon: Topfield TF5800PVR review
I have a box (as yet unpacked!) sat by my desk containing a Topfield TF5800PVR for review :-) This looks like it may be the techie's dream PVR, so I am looking forward to putting it through it's paces over the weekend. If you have any questions or specific things you'd like me to take a look at during the review, pop them in the comments here and I'll investigate for you. I hope to have a short preview up after the weekend, with a full in-depth review a week or so later. Mind you, with all the features this unit offers, it may take a bit longer than normal to fully understand the potential of this PVR...

I'd like you to review it on exactly the same set of questions you asked of the Inverto.

Yep, the most important thing is a comparison to the Inverto so that people that can't get their hands on all the different boxes can get the best idea on what they should buy. Any chances of you getting your hands on a Panny TUCTH100? A head-to-head between the Inverto/Toppy/Panny by the same person would be invaluable to people trying to make a decision.

I second that! I am on the verge of buying and it is now a decision to make between these three.

If you are looking for a head to head on all the PVR's see http://www.emsee.co.uk/pvr/
These appear to be the most important issues to PVR owners and not all the Toppy's boxes are filled!

I am looking to buy a freeview PVR soon. I would like to know if you think the Toppy is worth the extra money over the Fusion 150?

Hi Pix
When you review the Toppy I would like to know a few things for definite.
The Toppy takes you to a recording whenever it starts or finishes. Is this true? Or does it just do it under certain circumstances. I have read different reports on how (and why) it does this and am still confused. Any clarity on this 'feature' would be appreciated.
Of less importance
Can you mix TV and radio channels in one favourite list.
Can you cut down the HD noise by not automatically recording what you have been watching? i.e. buffering.
How does noise generally compare with the Inverto.
Could you compare the EPG with the Pace Twin which now seems to have emerged as the standard judging by comments on DigitalSpy.
Many thanks if you can adress any of these, especially the first.
Regards Richard

I would be most interested to know whether (on both Inverto & Toppy) the correct program information is displayed in the library if 'padding' has been applied.
Also, like others, I am desperate to know whether the Inverto is still as reliable as when you first reported.
Thanks...
Dave

Can any of these twin tuner PVRs access Top-Up Tv? I've read reviews that mention CAMs. I've worked out that these are conditional access modules (I'm new to terrestrial digital TV, I'm using SKY at the moment but would like to change as I don't watch 95% of the chanels)
How do you connect the CAM to your reciever?
Do you in fact connect the CAM to the reciever?

I'm afraid there is a delay on the Topfield review. There has been a problem with the unit I had, and it has been returned to be checked out. I shall update you all on it's return!

Any update on the Topfield review? I'm really interested in your Topfield vs Inverto views before I buy one or the other!

Although I believe only a single tuner version is avail at the moment (dual rumoured for end of Sept) but what about the Humax as well for the head to head comparison. Humax seems to have done well in the mags and a 'Which' survey.

Would be interesting to include the Humax as well, they seem to get awards in mags and a 'Which' consumer survey. I believe only a single tuner ia avail but a twin is rumoured for release in Sept.
